The ACADEMIC CHALLENGE TEAM competes in dual matches featuring JEOPARDY! like questions in all subject areas. The team competes in three W.A.C.K.O. (WESTCHESTER ACADEMIC CHALLENGE OF KNOWLEDGE ORGAN­IZATION) tournaments (NOV-JUNE) and the OMAR Q BECKINS tournament (MAR).

Tournaments are on Saturdays and winners qualify for the NATIONAL TOURNAMENT in June. Tryouts are in the Fall.

The Asian Club meets weekly to discuss ways to educate and engage others in culture, celebrations, and concerns relating to Asia and Asian Americans. The WPHS Chamber Orchestra is an extracurricular string orchestra that performs NYSSMA level 4-5 orchestra pieces. The ensemble is open to current orchestra students that want to rehearse and perform music in a small advanced-level group. The club will meet once a week after school and perform at school concerts and events, as well as participate in NYSSMA Majors.

Open to any students who want to explore Digital Art techniques on the iPad including: Digital drawing & painting, character design, Photo editing & collage, animation, iMovie, and 3D modeling. This will be run as “open studio time” where students can explore techniques shared by Mr. Wintersteen and other students. They can also work on their own independent projects and get feedback from their peers.

The Dubset Dance Club is where rhythm meets school spirit! It's a lively, creative crew that meets every week to perfect their moves, plan events, and rehearse upcoming dance performances. From school pep rallies to athletic games, and even the biggest school-wide events, the Dance Club brings upbeat choreography and positive vibes. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just love to dance, the club is the perfect place to express yourself, make new friends, and be part of something special. The Garden Club is involved in bringing flowers and vegetables to our community. The club helps maintain the school garden. We design and plant flowers and vegetables. We use what we grow to prepare food that is healthy and delicious. This year we are maintaining a pollinator bed to help beautify the school grounds and support bees and butterflies.

The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club's goal is to create a safe, welcoming and accepting environment for all students at White Plains High School, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We work toward raising awareness regarding issues that impact our club, as well as fostering a more accepting atmosphere for all students throughout WPHS.

The Honors String Ensemble is a highly selective extracurricular string orchestra that performs professional-level orchestral repertoire. The ensemble rehearses one evening per week and performs for school district events, at local hospitals and nursing homes, and for NYSSMA adjudication festivals. The ensemble is open to violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists who have passed an audition into the WPHS Symphony Orchestra.

The WPHS Jazz Band gives musicians an opportunity to learn Jazz, Latin, and Funk music in a Big Band setting. The band holds evening rehearsals once each week and performs at school concerts, community and school district events, and regional jazz festivals. In addition to the Big Band, the club includes a highly selective Jazz Combo that performs frequently and meets for an additional rehearsal each week.

White Plains High School's very own student mariachi celebrates Latin American cultures by performing traditional music of Mexico and beyond. The mariachi rehearses twice per week and frequently performs at school and community events. The group includes trumpet, violin, vihuela, guitar, guitarron, and singers.

WPHS Martial Arts Club meets after school and is a great way to learn self-defense, get physically fit and gain self-confidence. Students will learn and practice Brazilian Jiujitsu and other grappling arts including Wrestling and Judo. The club runs all year, and students can join at any time. The Medicine Group is for students who have an interest in the medical field. Our group has monthly guest speakers from a variety of medical backgrounds, including EMT's, Medical Researchers, Physicians, Surgeons, Medical Students, etc. group members discuss medical concepts and current events, watch videos, plan trips, learn first aid and more!

This club meets to prepare for our school food pantry, food and clothing drives, work with the AFYA foundation, and activities in White Plains. This club provides awareness to students about delivering vital medical supplies and PPE around the country and across the globe, homelessness and hunger in their area, and how they can be of help in their local community by providing outreach through this club. Some monthly activities in this club include volunteering time at local food pantries and soup kitchens, collecting food for our school food pantry, raising money for local homeless shelters, organizing food and clothing's drives, and more.

The White Plains High School's chapter of the National Honor Society has an ongoing mission to create an enthusiasm for scholar­ ship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character. Members are expected to uphold the civic, ethical, scholastic, and extra-curricular standards set by school and community in their behaviors both on and off school grounds. NHS members are recognized as school leaders and exemplars. National Honor Society inducts students in their Junior and Senior year.

Membership in the Nation Art Honor Society is based upon art scholarship, service, and character. Eligibility is limited to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a minimum art scholarship average of B. Members are chosen by nomination and review of portfolios by Art faculty and NAHS members. Club activities include: member are exhibits, induction ceremony, art, workshops, gallery and museum trips, portfolio preparation and art careers research.

Join the Peer Leaders program at Margaret's Place, where students are empowered to tackle violence in all its forms, from bullying to domestic abuse and racial and gender stereotyping. Through weekly meetings filled with discussions and training, participants delve into the complexities of these issues, learning to foster positive change in their schools and communities. By educating and inspiring others, Peer Leaders strive to break the cycle of violence and cultivate a culture of respect and empathy. This program develops not only knowledge and skills but also a sense of responsibility and leadership, encouraging students to become proactive agents of change.

The Ping Pong Club’s mission is to provide a nurturing environment in which students of all skill levels (from beginners to champs, and everyone in between) can play ping-pong and improve their skills. This sport is a great stress reliever and a fun way to meet new people!

Robotics combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of Science and Technology. Directly tied to the Science and Engineering programs at WPHS, Robotics provides an arena for students to combine their talents, skills, and competitive edge. Students will meet weekly, working together to design, fabricate, and program a robot from scratch, students travel to compete in weekend Robotics competitions.

The mission of the Science Fiction Club is to create a comfortable, fun environment in which students can learn about and discuss literature, film, and other cultural aspects of the science fiction genre. This club will help expose WPHS students to a variety of sci-fi media from a global perspective and allow them to go beyond the mainstream knowledge. Students will gain hands-on interactive experience through film, field trips, museums, exhibitions and analytical discuss.

SEED is a forum for the discussion of issues that affect us all. We explore topics including, but not limited to, gender, race, class, and sexual orientation. All students, teachers, and administrators of WPHS are welcome. Activities include reading articles, watching videos, listening to guest speakers, attending our annual "Eliminating Racism" overnight at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center, fundraising to give to two charities (one local and one international) and to cover the cost of the overnight, and an end of the year gathering.

The White Plains High School Step Team (The Royalty Steppers) is a club for students that like to dance and perform in school, around the community and the tri-state areas. We perform at functions for the Youth Bureau of White Plains, the Slater Center, Churches, and Step competitions. We welcome all students in grades 9 thru 12 to join us!

Working in conjunction with the local volunteer organization Hearts & Homes for Refugees, Students for Refugees (SFR) focuses on advocating, fundraising, and educating people across Westchester County on refugees. Theatre Unlimited is WPHS's theatre club. TU is responsible for producing the school plays and musicals, which includes opportunities for directing, designing, performing in, and running shows. TU also encompasses stage crew: the group of students who help build and paint sets pieces; hang and focus lights; and run the light and sound boards during performances. Additionally, the theatre club experiences theatre out­ side of school by seeing shows and engaging in workshops regarding theatre performance.

The Roar is WPHS' student-run literary and art magazine. Wonder Women is a club dedicated to gender equality and forging greater opportunities for women in all communities. By examining local and international issues affecting women, Wonder Women seeks to better understand the issues and concerns facing women around the world. Wonder Women welcomes all students to create a respectful environment for diverse points of view and a commitment to gender equality at school and in the larger society. Presentations on diverse topics facing women are presented during lunch time discussions and fundraising for a worthy cause that promotes gender equality occurs throughout the year. Wonder Women is an inclusive club that recognizes all genders and their contributions to feminism.

The purpose of ASL Chat is to promote inclusivity and awareness of the Deaf community. The primary goals of the group include teaching ASL, fostering understanding of Deaf culture, and building community between Deaf peers, hearing peers, and advocates. Our mission is to provide a supplementary, student-led support system for those navigating the college process. This process can be overwhelming for anyone, and the College Prep Crew will be there to support students of all grades to feel more secure, prepared, and confident as they begin their journey to further their education. The group will collaborate with guidance counselors to provide additional support and guidance to students who need help with resumes, cover letters, job interviews, revising their college essays, and the college application process. This space will provide students with peer-to-peer support where they can feel comfortable asking questions without hesitation and get hands-on help from someone who has recently gone through the process.

The Creative Writing Group aims to advance writing skills and encourage students' creativity. Our goal is to offer a creative place where students can feel free and share stories, whether personal or fictional. We will meet weekly to share a new skill and have a weekly topic for students to write a story or poem. We will also share resources and opportunities for writing competitions and scholarships.

Global Ambassadors represents the desire of the youth of WPHS to help those in our community as well as the world we live in. This group was founded to gather students who want to understand different cultures and meet others who are just as driven to make the world a better place for us and future generations. Students also learn to problem solve and the importance of community in times of need. Our goal is to encourage our youth to build the future with our own hands, locally and globally.

Tiger Tabletop Troop (TTT) provides students an opportunity to destress, unwind, and make new friends through playing tabletop games. Students play board games, card games, strategy games, and role-playing games. Students may play in competitive and non-competitive settings with any level of engagement. Anyone can join and bring their own interests to the table. Anything can be game-ified and enjoyed by all.

The UNICEF Group helps to advance the global mission of UNICEF by taking legislative action during key moments throughout the year to push for funding and policies that improve the lives of children. Our hope is to spread truthful, reliable information about the issues children face. Members can engage with UNICEF's work and find opportunities to promote their mission in our community.
