School and Community Service at White Plains High School
Dedicated to the Memory of Elaine London
The White Plains High School Community Service Program is designed to encourage, assist and honor White Plains High School students for service to the school and the community. The program is thriving! In fact, although Community Service is not a requirement for graduation, some of our students volunteer hundreds of hours of their time in service to the community. Students can earn up to one elective credit per year (not applicable toward the 22 credits required for graduation) for their efforts provided they donate at least 120 hours. We have many students who achieve or even exceed this goal.

The School and Community Service Program at White Plains High School was, appropriately, founded by and has always been administered by dedicated volunteers. Initially, and throughout the years, the dedicated volunteer was Elaine London. Mrs. London was involved in one way or another volunteering for our schools from the time she joined the Rosedale School PTA back in 1960 until she passed away in October of 2015. She founded the Community Service Program at White Plains High School many years ago. Truly no one ever poured more of their heart and soul into the children of this district than Elaine. Her obituary appears below. Note that even at her passing, she never forgot the White Plains Schools. We cannot thank her enough, and we will miss her.
